Vision Academy, a San Francisco Nonprofit that Teaches Local Children and Youth to Play Chess, Announces its Fall Pledge Drive and November 6th 2014 Fundraising Event

Now in it’s fourth year, Vision Academy, which started as a small summer camp in the Bayview, has expanded into a year-round program serving over two hundred San Francisco children and youth per week. Vision Academy invites the community to support their program by donating to their fall pledge drive, and to join their November 6 fundraiser and celebration event.

Vision Academy today announces its fall pledge drive “Believe in Kids” as well as their November 6, 2014 fundraiser event “Full Moon Fundraiser for Kids”. Vision Academy’s mission is to bring positive mentorship to children and youth across San Francisco through the game of chess.

“It is both amazing and humbling that over the course of four short years, our youth program has grown from one small summer camp, into a year-round program that serves over two hundred local kids per week.” said Kian Alavi, Executive Director of Vision Academy. “We now serve nine neighborhoods in San Francisco, and are in fruitful partnerships with nineteen other incredible non-profits. But our work has just begun. It is clear that children and youth experience many positive social and cognitive benefits from the game of chess, and we are working on reaching as many as possible with particular emphasis on kids facing social and economic hardships,” he said.

The fall pledge drive and fundraising event has a growing list of support from local community businesses including Faultline Studios, Rye Project, Heron Arts, Motley Goods, San Francisco Bar Academy, Stable Cafe and Dan Perata Training.

“Taking large steps, and growing to serve more kids in our community is not possible without support from our community. This pledge drive has shown that the community cares and wants to help,” said Alavi.

Proceeds from the pledge drive and fundraiser benefit local youth and are tax deductible. Vision Academy invites community members and local businesses to support youth by contributing to the fall pledge drive and attending the November 6 fundraiser event.
